Let’s start with the most unexpected transformation: our new solid wood core doors upstairs.
These doors instantly made our hallway feel more polished and elevated. They have a beautiful, elegant look — clean lines, glossy white finish — but what really makes them special is how substantial they feel. No more flimsy, hollow-core doors that feel like they’re mostly air inside.
When you open and close them, there’s weight. There’s quiet. There’s quality.
Sometimes I think these types of upgrades are overlooked because they’re not flashy. But the truth is, the things we touchevery day deserve just as much thought as the things we only see. I’ll happily splurge on kitchen hardware and countertops because we interact with them constantly — and now I’m adding doors to that list.

An Art Deco Semi-Flush Mount (That Mike Wants More Of)
We also added a new semi-flush mount light upstairs, and I am obsessed with the style.
It has this beautiful art deco influence with gold accents and a sleek plate detail. It straddles that perfect line between contemporary and classic, which is exactly where I love to live.
And the best part? Mike said it was incredibly easy to install. So easy, in fact, that he immediately told me to order two more for other spots in the house. When my resident installer gives that kind of review, I listen.
Lighting is one of those details that completely shifts the mood of a space, and this one added just the right amount of personality without overpowering the hallway.
Dining Room Curtains That Finally Got It Right
Downstairs, we finally added curtains to our dining room — something I’ve been holding off on for a long time.
Because of our mural wallpaper, I was very cautious. I didn’t want anything that competed with it or overwhelmed the room. These curtains from Wayfair totally fit the bill.
They feature beautiful pinch pleats at the top (which instantly gives them a more tailored, custom look) and the prettiest blue-gray trim detail that adds interest without stealing the spotlight. I added my own curtain rods and rings, but they arrived pre-threaded with curtain pins — such a thoughtful detail.
They’re also blackout curtains, which would make them perfect for a bedroom if you’re in the market. In our dining room, though, they’ve softened the space beautifully and added so much warmth and coziness. I cannot wait to show them off this weekend when we host my son’s birthday here.
A Washable Runner for Cozy (and Real-Life) Living
Another way I’m adding warmth to our home this winter? Area rugs.
I recently added a washable runner to our kitchen, and I’ve been loving washable rugs lately — especially with a puppy in the house. In a kitchen, spills are inevitable. Life happens.
This runner has a beautiful pattern in deep blues, navies, and creams that complements my black and white kitchen and checkered floors perfectly. It adds that extra layer that makes the space feel finished and inviting.
