This weekend, we made significant progress on bringing our scullery to life, transforming it into a space full of charm and character. We carefully hung a stunning mural wallpaper, adding depth and personality to the room with its intricate design and vibrant colors. To complement the walls, we installed countertop cabinets, which I’ve affectionately dubbed “boujas” – a term my grandmother lovingly used for cabinets. Incorporating this nostalgic word feels like a special tribute to her, infusing the space with both functionality and a touch of family history.
On Saturday, Mike took charge of hanging the mural wallpaper, transforming the walls with its vibrant, eye-catching design. By Sunday, I dove into the kitchen, sorting through cupboards to find the perfect items to fill our newly installed countertop cabinets—my cherished “boujas,” a nostalgic nod to my grandmother’s term for cabinets.
Recently, I’ve noticed the growing trend of “entertainment cabinets,” and it feels like an idea perfectly suited to our needs. While my kitchen has ample storage for pots and pans, I’ve longed for a designated spot for my tableware, candles, pitchers, serving bowls, and linens. These “boujas” offer the perfect solution—practical, stylish, and a little sentimental. They’re more than just cabinets; they’re a beautifully curated space for the essentials that bring warmth and elegance to gatherings.
We opted for IKEA Havsta cabinets but decided to leave the backs off. This choice allows the stunning mural to remain visible, creating a beautiful layered effect that integrates the cabinets seamlessly with the room’s design. One day, I’d love to take it a step further by adding interior lights. Since the cabinets feature glass shelves, the light would pass through them beautifully, creating a soft, glowing effect that highlights their contents and adds even more ambiance to the space.
One clever feature we incorporated is the addition of outlets on the bottom shelves. On the left side, I keep my electric can opener and new water kettle plugged in. When I need them, I simply slide them out, use them, and slide them back, keeping the counters tidy and efficient. Just to the left of the cabinet, we’ve set up our Nespresso machine and new toaster, creating a convenient beverage and breakfast prep area.

We’re planning to live with the current setup for a bit, but I can already imagine enhancing this spot with some brass rail shelves above the cabinets. These would be perfect for organizing our coffee essentials: stylish glass coffee canisters, a Nespresso pod storage container, and a silver tray holding our filters and scoop.
I recorded the entire process of renovating this space, and you can watch it here on my YouTube channel. If you’d like to shop items in my scullery, check it out here on my LTK.
