We’re Under Contract! But There’s Just One Problem…

We’re under contract! This week, we had three showings and went under contract with one of the offers. We’re thrilled to say the least and so happy our Florida home is in good hands with someone who will appreciate it.

We celebrated being under contract for about .2 seconds before we realized the bind this leaves us in. You see…Our Virginia house isn’t complete yet. Actually, it’s FAR from complete.

Currently, most rooms only have sub-flooring, two bathrooms are fully-gutted, and our kitchen is fully-gutted with no ceiling or floors. Our contractor has been working on moving electrical, plumbing, and constructing and tearing down walls, but now it’s crunchtime.

While we had hoped to move in this summer, it doesn’t look like it will be ready by then, and our agreement with our buyers says we need to leave by June 25.

I spent most of the day yesterday searching for places we could land with two kids and two dogs for a few weeks. Part of me wants to throw caution to the wind and get an Airbnb somewhere exotic! Part of me says we should try to live through the renovations at our Virginia house and save the money.  I really don’t love the idea of two kids and now a puppy running through a house undergoing a renovation.

We’ve explored the idea of Airbnbing somewhere in Miami since Mike will still be working here for awhile, but we both agree that I need to be at least near to the Virginia house to oversee renovations.

We’re also exploring the idea of getting somewhere that we can call an office. The pillows have started to take over our home, so it would be nice to have a space dedicated to that – and it would separate work and business a bit more, but do we have enough time to purchase a place before June 25?

In our marriage, Mike tends to be more pragmatic, and I tend to take risks. So far, taking risks in real estate has been great for us, so we aren’t completely ruling out the idea of purchasing something new to live in temporarily and then use as office space.

I feel like I’m on an episode of House Hunters and I’d like to fast forward and see which house they chose.  Do they Airbnb somewhere fun for a few weeks?  Live through the renovations?  Or try to purchase something completely new? I can hear the theme song now…

We’re big believers that everything happens for a reason, so I’m sure we’ll come across the right path for us soon.  And maybe even get to celebrate the sale of this house for more than .2 seconds.

Xoxo
