Designing Our Primary Bathroom at Our Classic Colonial, Should We Do Our Dream Marble Bathroom?

I feel like we’ve turned a corner this week with designing our primary bathroom.  Last Friday, our contractor called us to ask if we had purchased the vanity or bath tub yet because he was working on the plumbing.  Mike and I looked at each other, realizing that nope, we had been focusing so much on tile that we hadn’t shopped for those pieces yet.

We REALLY would love a marble bathroom but we’re afraid of the fragility. But we also don’t want to have any regrets with this remodel. We’re so used to renovating and selling in a few years that this time, we feel an immense amount of pressure to GET IT RIGHT. Luckily, it was WayDay weekend, so we sifted through the site and found a vanity we really loved, and of course, it has a marble top.

I love the lines of the vanity – especially that carved backsplash and the beveled edge of the countertop.

We like to look for inspiration at hotels, and we always like the mirrors at hotels that have the light built in. This may stray from a classic look, but whatever. I love them for putting makeup on, and when the light’s off, it just looks like a regular beveled edge mirror. I picked up these two during the WayDay sale.

For tile, I stopped by Floor & Decor for the thousandth time and tried to find a tile that looked like marble but would be a bit more durable. This ceramic was the closest I could get, but it does make my heart sink a little.

I also checked out Bedrosian’s because we love the tile we purchased from there for the foyer. Sure enough, they do carry porcelain in marble designs. I ordered a few samples and held them up to marble at Floor & Decor (AGAIN – They must think I’m crazy there), and they really mimic a honed marble nicely.

Left to right: Statuarietto, Luxe White, and Bianco Carrara.

They’re 30″x30″ tiles, so I would still need to find something of the shower floor and walls. Will I regret doing marble? Will I regret NOT doing marble? Will my purple shampoo have me showering in the kids’ bathroom the rest of my days???

At this point, I’m leaning towards doing marble and going brunette. C’est la vie.
