Our Fourth Bedroom, Finally Figured Out: A Daybed That Does It All

If there’s one room in our house that has truly lived many lives, it’s our fourth bedroom. Over the past year and a half, this space has evolved again and again as our needs shifted—and honestly, that’s exactly why I love where it landed.

When we first moved in, we planned to combine this room with our primary bedroom and turn it into a closet. That’s when we added the white armoir from Wayfair—and we still absolutely love it. But after settling in, we realized we didn’t need an entire extra room just for clothes. Slowly, this space became part closet, part home gym… and eventually, a place we actually wanted to spend time.

What we were missing was a comfortable, intentional place to unwind upstairs and host the occasional guest—without sacrificing square footage or function. That’s when this daybed entered the picture.

I spotted it on Wayfair in this beautiful navy blue and white checkered fabric with scalloped upholstery, and I knew immediately it was perfect for a multifunctional room like this. We could use it as a daybed for watching movies and extend it for the occasional guest. As we’ve remodeled this home over the past two years, Wayfair has consistently delivered for us.  From beds, to dresser, armoirs to bathtubs, I’ve been impressed with the variety and quality Wayfair has.

As we make this home more our own, something I’ve been leaning into more and more lately: Maximixing every bit of space in our home with clever furniture finds that adapt to what we need, when we need it.

Why This Daybed Works So Well for Us

On its own, the daybed functions as a twin-size bed, but the high upholstered back makes it feel more like a sofa. It’s ideal for lounging, movie nights, and those evenings when we all wind down together upstairs.  I’m even typing this blog post from it as my daughter and I watch a show!

My daughter loves sitting on it while I work out, playing with her toys nearby—and I love having her close while still being able to move through my routine. It’s cozy, practical, and doesn’t overpower the room.

And when it comes to guests, this piece really shines:

  • There’s a second twin mattress tucked underneath on casters that easily pulls out.

  • When my nephews visit, I can roll that second bed to the other side of the room so they each have their own space.

  • If we’re hosting a couple, the second twin can be raised to the same height as the daybed to create a king-size bed.

  • When no one’s visiting, it works beautifully as a sofa without taking up the entire room.

From sofa beds to storage tables, it’s all about discovering smart designs that make every inch count—and this daybed checks every box.

The Bedding Details (Because They Matter)

I also want to note that the duvet cover and pillow shams are from Wayfair as well. I actually have this same set on my own bed, and I knew it would be perfect in this space too. This time, I opted for the capuccino trim, which subtly complements the art above the bed and adds just the right amount of grandmillennial charm without feeling overly sweet.

The fabric is cotton sateen, which is my personal favorite for bedding. It has that silky, cool-to-the-touch feel while still being 100% breathable thanks to the cotton—comfortable, polished, and practical all at once.

Solving the Nightstand Problem (With Sconces)

Another smart solution to maximize space in this room: the lighting. We simply don’t have the space for nightstands and table lamps here, so I went with wire plug-in sconces from Wayfair, and they could not be more perfect.

They plug in easily, have a little clicker attached to the cord that you can reach from inside the bed, and give off the prettiest glow in the evenings. I love how they add warmth and function while bringing in a slightly more contemporary element to balance out some of the cutesy details in the room.

Speaking of lighting, we also upgraded our lighting in here to this pretty semi-flush mount.  I got it in the antique brass finish.

One Last Surprise Feature

And one final thing I didn’t even realize when I ordered the daybed: it has built-in charging ports! There are USB and USB-C ports discreetly tucked inside the arm, which makes charging phones or tablets so easy—no cords running across the room or hunting for outlets.

The Takeaway

This daybed (and the thoughtful details around it) finally helped this fourth bedroom become what it was always meant to be: a flexible, hardworking space that adapts to our life as it changes. It doesn’t take up the whole room, but it’s ready whenever we need it—whether that’s family movie night, a workout buddy audience, or overnight guests.
